Area of Study
Courses in geology are offered through the Science Division and count toward Group II (science and mathematics) graduation credit. They provide a basic introduction to geology for non-science majors and serve as the basis for additional course work in the earth sciences at other institutions.

GEOL131 Physical Geology
4 Credit Hours
Prerequisite: NONE
An introduction to the study of the Earth
and its structure and to the processes that change it through time.
The laboratory work includes some study of minerals, rocks, and maps.
Three hours of lecture and two hours of laboratory per week.
GEOL132 Historical Geology
4 Credit Hours
Prerequisite: GEOL 131
Centers on the development of the Earth through geological time with emphasis on North America and on the principles of historical geology. Three hours of lecture and two hours of laboratory per week.
GEOL133 Geology of Michigan
3 Credit Hours
Prerequisite: NONE
A non-laboratory course focusing on the geological history of Michigan and emphasizing early observable features in our state. Also included are an introduction to the principles of historical geology and some study of Michigan minerals, rocks and maps, with on or more Saturday field trips forming an integral part of the course. Three hours of lecture per week.
